Cape Town cafés never fail to raise the coffee brewing bar. Whether you're escaping rain showers or soaking up the sun, you'll likely find a comfortable space to sit and sip espressos.
That being said, a few Cape Town coffee shops in particular stand out by offering more than expertly crafted cappuccinos. These cafés double as . . . well . . . anything they like.
Double shot coffee shops offer what we believe to be perfect pairings between coffee and culture, and we highly recommend paying these few a visit or two.
Roastin' Records
First on our list is Roastin' Records. This intimate coffee house, based in an almost suburban pocket of Gardens, doubles as a record store and is simply a must for vinyl collectors and music enthusiasts alike.
First timers might feel as though they've got the wrong place, as there is a singular table outside and the rest of the shop doesn't resemble the traditional café look and feel. But this is how Roastin' Records stands out.
Taking your time flipping through a huge selection of vinyl while a record spins in the background makes for a tranquil coffee sipping backdrop for music lovers. The coffee is worthy of a hit single or a great double album too.
Soil for Life
Next, Soil for Life offers the perfect combination of nature, nurture, and a well brewed cup of coffee. Soil for Life's self-described vision of a healed planted seems to be well underway.
Nestled between the natural foliage of Constantia, this coffee shop is more than just one thing. Soil for Life could be described as a restaurant, organic green grocer, community developer or a sustainable living education center - all depending on what visitors want to get out of their experience.
Taking part in their gardening courses and workshops isn't compulsory, and visitors would likely still enjoy meandering through Soil for Life's beautiful garden, homemade americano in hand, or browsing the organic goods which they so lovingly produce.
Lime Tree Café
Lastly, we have Bergvliet's Lime Tree Café, tucked away on the corner of Dreyersdal Road and Children's Way - popular among nearby residents at almost any time of day.
In addition to making a killer cup of coffee, Lime Tree has taken things a step further by curating a cozy corner of their café to resemble a miniature library. Together with a coffee table and a pair of chairs, their selection of secondhand novels makes up an inviting reader's den for coffee connoisseurs who may feel like a change of scenery and the company of a good book.
Their books are for sale and all proceeds are donated to The Belmont Care Centre, suggesting that Lime Tree Café makes a change as well as expertly crafted coffee.
