Lockdown shows estate agents drive property sales despite dramatic tech advances

Category Market Update

One key aspect highlighted by the Covid-19 Lockdown has been that despite the significant advances and use of technology in real estate, it is still estate agents who drive property sales.

Although virtual tours and digital viewings and liaison could take place under the lockdown, it was only when agents were able to assist purchasers with physical viewing and negotiation to conclude deals that the market started moving again.

After a few years of dramatic advances in technology in the property sector, it is now conclusive that technology is not replacing agents, but rather enabling us to offer a significantly advanced service to our customers.

While communication and the marketing of properties are now almost entirely digital, the important aspects of the transaction between seller and buyer, however, still require a trusted agent who can guide the parties through the process and provide guidance on various aspects, pricing and the market.

Ultimately, the objective of any real estate transactions is negotiating and facilitating a win-win outcome for both the seller and purchaser, and this is the critical role that an estate agent plays.

Selling and buying a home is the single most significant financial transaction that most people will ever make. The costs and consequences are significant, and it is financially and legally complex. Sellers and buyers therefore still seek out the assistance of a professional intermediary, preferably a trusted local operator with a track record in the area.

Home is our Story and property my passion. While Seeff is at the forefront of technology-enabled real estate, people are at the heart of our business.
